About me

My name is Millie Slavidiou, and I am a linguist, a language learner, and someone who has chosen Greece as her home.

Born in the UK to a bilingual family, I hold a degree in [degree details], and bring both academic knowledge and personal experience to my teaching. I know how languages are acquired, what the research says about best practice, and what actually works in real life.

Learn Greek with Millie Slavidou

A language learner – just like you

My native languages are English and Welsh. As a learner, I have reached C1 level in Greek and Italian, and B2 in French and German. I haven’t just studied languages in a classroom – I have lived them in the countries where they are spoken, navigating daily life, building relationships, finding my way through bureaucracy (in Greece and Italy!) in languages that weren’t my own.

I know what it’s like to sit with a text that you struggle to understand, or the frustration of learning pesky grammar. And the quiet satisfaction when you finally get it. That’s why every story and lesson on Learn Greek Hub is written the way it is. Not by someone telling you how to learn Greek, but by someone who already did.

I wanted stories I could read and enjoy. So I write for you the stories that I would have liked to read myself during my learning journey.

Why learn Greek with me

In addition to my work as a writer and translator, I have been teaching languages for xx years. I teach not only Greek, but also English, Italian, and Welsh to enthusiastic students from around the world – bringing the same passion to every lesson, in any language.

Early in my teaching career, I noticed that many of my students needed lessons that went beyond traditional textbooks and teaching materials. To keep my students engaged, and to make learning the language fun, I started developing my own teaching materials. My amusing and insightful short stories brought language to life in a way that textbooks or apps simply couldn’t, and the feedback from my students was extremely positive. These stories became the foundation of Learn Greek Hub.

Following the UK’s exit from the European Union, I noticed an uptick in demand from UK citizens living in Greece who needed help to prepare for their Greek citizenship exam. As I went through the Greek citizenship process myself, I knew exactly what was required, and how to help my students.

Over the years, I’ve been contacted by Greek diaspora who want to learn Greek to connect with their past. Many of them speak basic Greek, but find it difficult to communicate with relatives in the old country. Some are interested in their geneology and want to explore historical documents in the original Greek to trace their ancestry.

This combination of personal experience and teaching expertise is what makes the Learn Greek Hub different.

You won’t just find lessons for learning Greek. You’ll find stories and lessons written by a learner of languages for learners. Shaped by years of teaching, a deep understanding of how languages are acquired, and a genuine love of Greece and its language.

What makes the Learn Greek Hub different

Most Greek learning resources are built around grammar tables, textbook exercises, and texts written for the mass market. These resources don’t take into account why you are learning Greek and that matters.

Someone preparing for their Greek citizenship exam has very different needs from someone with a holiday home in Greece who want to order cofee confidently and communicate with their neighbourts. A heritage speaker reconnecting with their grandparents’ language needs something different again from someone who simply loves Greece and wants to read it, speak it, and feel it.

Learn Greek Hub is built around that difference. Every story, every lesson, every exercise has been created by someone who has actually been through the process of learning Greek. Not a publishing house. Not an algorithm. A real language learner with a passion for teaching.

Whatever brings you to the Learn Greek Hub – citizenship preparation, exploring your heritage, or simply the love of the Greek language – there’s something here for you.
